Aviation Safety Working Group Meeting

The Aviation Safety Working Group (ASWG) meeting was held on 13 and 14 December 2023, at the SASO Secretariat offices in Mbabane, Eswatini. The objective of the meeting was to review the draft SADC generic regulations and recommend them for approval as well as discuss strategies to address aviation safety issues being experienced in the region.

Amongst other issues for discussions were:

  • Review of the Terms of Reference for the ASWG;
  • Presentation and review of the SADC Generic Regulations; and
  • Strategies to resolve Significant Safety Concerns (SSCs) currently in the region and the world.

The workshop was organized and hosted by SASO at its offices in the Kingdom of Eswatini. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Christopher Ferguson who is the Director – Flight Safety and Standards at the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana. The workshop was attended by delegates from Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, South Africa and Zambia.
